Pointer on Ethiopia
The African Mission Foundation has been active for many years, primarily in South Sudan. In addition, over the past few years, we have had the privilege of setting up and completing various wonderful projects in Northern Uganda and Kenya. In Ethiopia, our involvement has so far been limited to a few individual requests for assistance. That is now changing.
Mary Joy Clinic Addis Ababa
Through our sponsor and good friend Jan Luursema, a special new project crossed our path: the further development of the Mary Joy Clinic in Addis Ababa. This project immediately appealed to us due to the enormous need for good medical care and the opportunity for us as a foundation to make a concrete contribution.
Jan Luursema and African Mission have known each other since before the turn of the century. Over the past decades, a close friendship has developed, based on a shared commitment to development work and aid in Africa. In the coming months, we will work together intensively to further shape this project and actually get it off the ground.
Medical equipment and supplies for Africa
The Mary Joy Clinic has the ambition to make medical care more accessible and available to the local population in Addis Ababa. To make this possible, we intend to focus initially on securing funding for the project. In parallel, we are starting to collect medical equipment and supplies that can be transported from the Netherlands to Ethiopia. This includes, among other things, medical monitors, treatment equipment, operating room facilities, and other essential aids that are often still perfectly usable in the Netherlands but can make a huge difference in Ethiopia. Organizing transport and logistics will also form an important part of the project in the coming period.
Building the future of the Mary Joy Clinic in Addis Ababa together
We hope to pay a joint working visit to Addis Ababa in the summer of 2027 to see with our own eyes how the project is developing and how the resources deployed are contributing to better care for the local community. It is important to us not only to provide support remotely but also to remain personally involved in the progress and impact of the project.
With this new initiative, African Mission is further expanding its scope of work within East Africa. We look forward to sharing more updates on the progress of the Mary Joy Clinic in the near future and taking everyone along in this special development.
More information about the project can be found on the African Mission project page – Mary Joy Clinic Addis Ababa.
