Lui Hospital in further disrepair

Lui's hospital continues to fall into disrepair as the problems only get worse.

When the civil war finally came to an end when the SPLA/SPLM and the government of Sudan signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) on January 9, 2005, Lui’s hospital has been massively rigged with aid from the United States. Samaritan’s Purse has pumped a lot of money into renovating the hospital. They have flown in medical personnel and have adequately started upgrading this hospital.

A few years later, Samaritan’s Purse shifted its focus from South Sudan to Darfur (in Sudan). In addition to Samaritan’s Purse, Amref (Flying Doctors) was also active for the Lui Hospital. They led the training institute for sisters, located on the grounds of the Lui Hospital. Amref also left Lui around 2007.

After the departure of Samaritan’s Purse and Amref, CUAMM (Doctors with Africa – Italia) took over the management. Initially with a team of 5 doctors, but soon this was no longer affordable. Currently only one doctor is active. And then to realize that this hospital serves a region the size of a medium-sized European provincial town.
