Grant awarded for medical project in Ethiopia

The AFAS Foundation has pledged a financial contribution for the further development of the Mary Joy Clinic in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). Thanks to this support, investments can be made in medical equipment, staff training, and the further professionalization of care for vulnerable residents.

The project is being carried out by the African Mission Foundation in collaboration with the local organization Mary Joy Ethiopia. The investment focuses on strengthening the clinic’s medical and technical capacity, enabling more patients to be helped and treatments to take place closer to the target group.

The Mary Joy Clinic offers accessible and, where necessary, free care to street children, single mothers, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions, among others. Due to the growth in the number of patients and the commissioning of a new clinic building, an expansion of medical facilities is necessary to continue meeting the demand for care.

The contribution will finance, among other things, medical equipment, transport, installation, and training of local staff. By opting for professionally refurbished equipment, a significant improvement in care quality and capacity can be achieved with a relatively limited investment.

Jan Luursema, project leader on behalf of African Mission: “With this contribution, we can take the next step in the development of the clinic. By investing in equipment as well as local knowledge, we are strengthening care structurally and sustainably.” The coming period will focus on the purchase of equipment, organizing transport to Ethiopia, and installation in the clinic. This will be followed by a phase of training and monitoring to ensure the sustainable use of the facilities.

The project aims to provide thousands of vulnerable residents of Addis Ababa with access to better and more accessible healthcare every year.
